Moon Line Astrocartography: Where You'll Feel at Home

After love, the question people ask StarMapper most is some version of "where would feel like home?" It's a different question from "where would I succeed?" and your map answers it with different lines. The two to know are Moon lines, which carry belonging and emotional safety, and IC lines, which carry home, roots, and family.

What Is a Moon Line?

The Moon in astrology is your emotional body: what makes you feel safe, what you need to rest, and what "home" means to you. A Moon line runs through every place where the Moon sat on one of the four angles when you were born. Near one, your feelings come to the surface. Places on a Moon line tend to feel familiar quickly, sometimes in a way that's hard to explain.

The Four Moon Lines

LineWhat it feels likeBest for
Moon ICInstantly, deeply at homeSettling down, family, rest
Moon ASCMore sensitive, open, and intuitiveEmotional growth, caring work
Moon DSCClose, nurturing relationshipsPartnership, found family
Moon MCA public life built on care or connectionWork with the public, caregiving careers

The Moon IC line is the strongest home line on any map. The IC is the lowest point of the chart, the angle of home and roots, and the Moon is the planet of belonging. Put them together and you get the place most likely to feel like where you're meant to be. People often choose it to buy a home, start a family, or recover from a demanding chapter.

The trade-off is visibility. Moon IC is so comfortable that ambition can fade, and old family patterns sometimes resurface to be worked through. If you also want a big career push, pair a Moon IC city with an MC line elsewhere.

Other Lines That Feel Like Home

Any planet on the IC colors your home life. The ones most people find welcoming:

  • Venus IC: a beautiful, harmonious, comfortable home; lovely for couples.
  • Sun IC: a strong sense of identity rooted in home and family.
  • Jupiter IC: a generous, spacious home life; often good for property.
  • Saturn IC: lasting stability, but heavy at first; the line of long-term foundations.

Lines to think twice about for a permanent home are Mars IC (friction and restlessness at home), Uranus IC (instability, frequent moves), and Pluto IC (intense family dynamics). None of them are off limits, but they're rarely restful.

StarMapper's "feels like home" ranking uses the same order: Moon IC first, then Venus and Sun IC, then Jupiter and Saturn IC.

Home vs. Career: You May Need Two Places

Home lines and career lines usually sit in different parts of the world, because the IC and MC are opposite points of the chart. Your Moon IC line and your Moon MC line are always half a world apart. That's not a flaw in your map; it describes a real trade-off between being known and being at home. Many people live near a home line and travel to their career lines, or the reverse.

How to Use Your Map When Choosing Where to Live

  1. Draw your free map and pick "home" as your focus, or tap "Where are the best places that might feel like home for me?" in the location Q&A.
  2. Write down the cities within about 70 miles of your Moon IC, Venus IC, and Sun IC lines.
  3. Cross that list with the places you'd realistically consider: work, family, cost of living, climate.
  4. For a serious candidate, look at the relocation chart for that city, which shows how your whole chart shifts there.

For a year-by-year look at one city, the Year Ahead Reading ($9.99) combines your relocated chart with the actual transit windows for your next 12 months there.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best astrocartography line for home?

The Moon IC line. The IC (Imum Coeli) is the angle of home, roots, and family, and the Moon is the planet of belonging and emotional safety, so the combination is the classic 'this feels like home' line. Venus IC and Sun IC are close seconds.

What does a Moon line mean in astrocartography?

A Moon line marks where the Moon was on one of the four angles when you were born. Near it, your emotional life comes to the foreground: you feel more, need more closeness, and notice whether a place nourishes you. Which angle it's on decides where that shows up (self, career, home, or partnership).

Is a Saturn IC line bad for buying a house?

Not necessarily. Saturn IC is heavy and can feel lonely at first, but it's also the line of lasting foundations. People who buy property, take on family responsibilities, or want a disciplined home base can do well there once the early weight lifts.

Should I move somewhere just because a line runs through it?

Use your map as one input among the real ones: work, family, cost of living, climate, friends. The most useful way to use it is as a tiebreaker between places you're already considering.
